Code of Ethics

Respect the dignity and worth of every human being, and their right to self-determination.

Not discriminate with regard to services, based on sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities or socioeconomic status, or any other factors that are defined or prescribed by law.

Strive to act with integrity, independence and impartiality. Avoid conflicts of interest.

Obtain appropriate informed consent from the clients prior to providing any services.

Maintain client confidentiality as prescribed by current laws.

Recognize the scope of practice and only practice within the limits of competency and to the highest possible standards.

Respect the variety of different styles of guided imagery and complementary professions.

Ensure that clients' expectations, and the basis on which they will be met, are understood by both parties.

Respect each client’s rights to self-development and self-direction.

Respect each client’s rights of choice, including responsibilities for goals reached, as long as the client’s choices do not cause harm to self or others.

Describe all fees, sliding scale, or pro-bono schedule to all clients before sessions begin. Update clients as to all changes in fees or charges.

Inform the client of the purposes, goals, techniques, rules of procedure and limitations that may affect the relationship at or before the time that relationship commences.

Keep the working relationship as one in which client adaptability and growth toward self-direction are encouraged and cultivated. Not become a decision maker for the client nor create a dependency.

Take reasonable personal action or inform responsible authorities when a client's condition indicates that there is a clear and imminent danger to the client or others.

Undertake ongoing efforts to maintain knowledge and skill levels in their practice specialties.

Maintain knowledge and updates of laws, regulations and/or policies that are implicated in this practice.

Disclose educational qualifications and professional credentials and certifications to clients when asked and/or when appropriate.

Treat colleagues, other professionals, and para-professionals with the same dignity and respect afforded clients.

Not engage in any type of sexual relations with clients.

Act within the law and not encourage, assist, or collude with others engaged in unlawful conduct.

Not practice law or medicine.

Not accept bonuses, kickbacks, or other remuneration in exchange for client referrals.
